Discover the Best Things to See in Vietnam

by Heesun @ Vietnam – Me Want Travel

Vietnam stole my heart. Its chaos, the inherent friendliness and pride found in its people, the complex sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors of its food left me wanting to stay far longer than the short time I had. Based on my experiences there, these are the best things to see in Vietnam: 7. Ha Long Bay Cruise (Halong Bay, Vietnam)  Ha Long Bay is in northeast Vietnam and is known for its countless limestone formations, or karsts, that dot the bay. Most people explore the bay through single day or multi-day cruises on junk boats. After some Trip Advisor research, we booked a cruise through Pelican Cruise. The rooms were nicely furnished and my friend and I joked that one day, we would be able to think of this as “normal”. For now though, we were super excited about how plush the bed was and how cool it was that we had our own shower in our room. The cruise also offered kayaking, tai chi with the sunrise, cave excursions and had a sundeck bar where you could buy 2 for 1 drinks until 7:30 pm. You also visit a fishing village and meet the fisherwomen, who take you for a ride through the bay […]

Cost of Living in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam (Spending Report)

by Sharon @ Vietnam – Me Want Travel

I went to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam in March and had an awesome time! It was my first visit to this country, making it my 28th country to-date. I found costs were similar to those of Chiang Mai, Thailand – perhaps a little more expensive, but I still ended up spending less than $1,000 for the month while eating out and enjoying myself every day! Without further ado, here is my spending report: Cost of Living in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam (Spending Report) Things to Note The 32 days Vietnam spending report includes a 3-day vacation to Hoi An. 22,000 VND equals $1 USD You can easily get food around $1-3 (30,000-60,000 VND). I ended up going to a lot of places with meals for around $5-7 each (100,000-150,000 VND+). Movies are really cheap here so I loved going to theaters by myself! For transportation, you can select “Uber Moto” on the Uber app to hitch rides behind a scooter/motorcycle! I found the whole scooter mode of transportation a bit scary in Vietnam especially when you’re the pedestrian needing to cross the streets. But I ended up getting used to using Uber Moto and found it quite convenient. It was only around $1-3 […]

How to Plan your Southeast Asia Trip (2015)

by Heesun @ Vietnam – Me Want Travel

After traveling to Europe, next on my bucket list was the magical kingdom of Southeast Asia. Friends would come back from their backpacking trip or study abroad trip and wax poetic on how “lifechanging” and “amazing” it was. After hearing the abundance of testimonies, I knew I would have to experience Southeast Asia for myself. So one of my buddies from college, Tess, and I started planning. We both finished our academic responsibilities in May and we both had a hard stop of June 1 to return to real life. This gave us about three weeks to explore a set of countries that we could have easily spent six months in. After much deliberation, we decided to visit Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. Here is the final specific itinerary we came up with and hopefully it can shed some light on how to plan your Southeast Asia trip! Best Carry-On Suitcases that Meet RyanAir Requirements

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

Many people have caught onto the minimalist travel movement. Meaning, more and more people travel with nothing more than a small cabin carry-on. To some, this may seem crazy, but to others it is perfect to pack only the essentials and save money by not checking in baggage! But whether you are traveling with extra baggage or not, a solid carry-on suitcase is still a must! Packing for a trip can be quite an exhausting procedure, especially when you don’t have the right type of luggage. Finding the perfect carry-on suitcase can also be quite daunting, especially for those not into shopping or with a budget. Luckily, we have searched high and low to prepare a ready-at-hand list of our top picks for carry-on suitcases. To make this list optimal for affordable, minimalist travel, we’ve made sure each suitcase is small and light enough for RyanAir requirements. RyanAir is a budget airlines that has strict guidelines on how big and heavy your carry-on suitcase can be before you have to pay more for check-in. RyanAir cabin luggage requirements: a max of 55x40x20cm with a 10kg max weight. (In inches that means: 21.65 inches x 15.748 inches x 7.87 inches and 22.0462 […]

10 NIGHT THAILAND & VIETNAM VOYAGE

10 NIGHT THAILAND & VIETNAM VOYAGE

Azamara Club Cruises

After beginning in Singapore, you’ll spend a day at sea, just to help you recover from the excitement of this ultramodern Asian metropolis. Next, it’s on to the island of Koh Samui in Thailand, where surely Pantone color 3242 was conceived: a perfect sea green. Onshore, you’ll be greeted by white sand, coconut groves, and elephant rides for the adventurous. In Bangkok, you’ll spend two nights, but probably not sleep: too many palaces, red-light districts, and places to enjoy an authentic Thai meal. Spend time in Chinatown getting lost in the labyrinthine Flower and Thieves markets. Go behind the scenes of the privately owned Prasart Museum, a lush cultural garden oasis. Or visit the Grand Palace, a complex of buildings that once housed the Kings of Siam as far back as 1782. With two days in port, you’ll have time for all three. After a relaxing day at sea, Vietnam is next up. Ho Chi Minh City is an adventure in itself. Watch motorcycles ride by with mattresses or a tower of chairs on their backs. Take a walk past neighborhoods hidden down tiny alleyways. And save your appetite for the large variety of famous street food. Two days in Vietnam present the opportunity to sail down the Mekong Delta, where you’ll get a look into the lives of river dwellers and have the chance to visit a traditional home. One more day at sea brings you back to where it all began, so you can see everything you missed the first time.

There’s a saying that goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” The widely used phrase is pretty straightforward in its meaning: embrace the local customs. And that’s exactly what we strive to do with our guided motorcycle adventures. Riders on a MotoQuest adventure are not your average tourist. They are travelers, wanderers even, […]
