Tips on Sleeping in the Airport During an Overnight Layover

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

Headed to Hong Kong, I noticed last minute that I purchased a flight containing an overnight layover in Beijing. I didn’t really want to venture outside of the airport to explore the city, and I heard it wasn’t abnormal to sleep over in the airport. So I decided to try spending a night in the airport for my first time ever! Tips on Sleeping in the Airport During an Overnight Layover My Story: I arrived at the Beijing airport on maybe 4-5 hours of sleep. I had only slept about 3-4 hours prior to my flight (I have sleep issues), and I only slept a max of 1 hour on the flight. So I was obviously exhausted. It took about 1 hour to pass through security for transfers (Beijing airport lines tend to be long). It was pretty tiring standing in line as I was feeling nauseous from the lack of sleep. I had to find a place to rest! I learned there were sleeping pods in the airport so I took a look. They had one, and it wasn’t taken. So I tried to sleep in this: I ended up being unable to because I kept worrying about how […]

Best Carry-On Suitcases that Meet RyanAir Requirements

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

Many people have caught onto the minimalist travel movement. Meaning, more and more people travel with nothing more than a small cabin carry-on. To some, this may seem crazy, but to others it is perfect to pack only the essentials and save money by not checking in baggage! But whether you are traveling with extra baggage or not, a solid carry-on suitcase is still a must! Packing for a trip can be quite an exhausting procedure, especially when you don’t have the right type of luggage. Finding the perfect carry-on suitcase can also be quite daunting, especially for those not into shopping or with a budget. Luckily, we have searched high and low to prepare a ready-at-hand list of our top picks for carry-on suitcases. To make this list optimal for affordable, minimalist travel, we’ve made sure each suitcase is small and light enough for RyanAir requirements. RyanAir is a budget airlines that has strict guidelines on how big and heavy your carry-on suitcase can be before you have to pay more for check-in. RyanAir cabin luggage requirements: a max of 55x40x20cm with a 10kg max weight. (In inches that means: 21.65 inches x 15.748 inches x 7.87 inches and 22.0462 […]

How to Choose the Best Backpacking Backpack in 2018

Although suitcases have taken over the traveling world for many years, backpacks are increasing in popularity with the rise in world travelers and backpacker culture. It could be argued that backpacks are even more convenient than carrying a suitcase. Perhaps it is the fact that backpacks allow more freedom and ease of travel when getting through airports, going up or down stairs, or crossing busy streets with rocky pavement. Many backpacks are also carry-on friendly to cut down on extra travel costs. But with so many options you may be wondering what some of the main features to look for are. 5 Greek Temples You Can’t Miss

by Heesun @ Me Want Travel

Temple Hopping in Greece Aside from its undeniable rich history and fascinating culture, Greece is internationally known for its trademark architecture. Among their many world-renowned landmarks, the Hellenic Republic’s beautiful temples still stand as not only one of the country’s main tourist attractions, but also as a reminder that Greece is one of the oldest and most durable civilizations that has ever existed. In this article we will take a look at five of the most recognizable Greek temples that you should visit if you happen to travel to Greece Temple of Olympian Zeus Ancient History highlights that the Temple of Zeus is one of the largest temples ever built in ancient history thanks to its ambitious layout and distinctively tall columns. Such was the ambition of the temple that it took 700 hundred years to be completed. During its heyday, the temple featured numerous gigantic statues of Zeus made out of gold and chryselephantine. As Athens is likely to be the first stop for any visitor to Greece, the Temple of Olympian Zeus is the best place to start your temple hopping. You can see more on what to do in Athens here. 7 Reasons Iceland Should Be Your Next Travel Destination

Iceland is a gorgeous country and has been receiving its fair share of hype due to social media. I went in March 2016 and it was 100% worth it, even though it was cold AF (I’m not going to lie to you). Here are 7 reasons why Iceland should be your next travel destination. 7 Reasons Why Iceland Should Be Your Next Travel Destination 1. Waterfalls – Waterfalls are EVERYWHERE in Iceland. It was pretty standard to see at least one an hour when we were driving. Here are just two examples, the first is Seljalandsfoss and the second is Haifoss (the ending -foss denotes that it is a waterfall). 2. Icelandic horses – As you drive around the Ring Road or throughout Iceland’s beautiful scenery, you will most likely chance upon some Icelandic horses. They’re extremely adorable and remind me of ponies. Sometimes, they’re so still that you feel like you’re looking at a photograph, with only their tails blowing in the wind to hint at their realness. 3. Double rainbows on the regular – With its random rains, seeing double rainbows in Iceland is a pretty regular magical occurrence. And being in Iceland, you have the added benefit of a dope […]

Visiting Stanley and Repulse Bay in Hong Kong

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

I had been staying in Chiang Mai, Thailand for a month or so and plan on staying there until around March. During this time, I decided to surprise my parents back in Hong Kong (they live there half the year)! I flew over on the 7th without them knowing, and when they opened the door to greet me my dad was in shock and my mom cried. My eyes welled up a little too, haha. It was wonderful hanging out with my parents. I headed back to Chiang Mai on January 16th, but while I was in Hong Kong I was trying to bond with family and get out of the house each day. The other day we visited Stanley and Repulse Bay. The last time I went was with a friend, so it had been a while since going with family. Transportation To get to Stanley and Repulse Bay, we suggest taking a bus rather than a taxi to save money, as the bus is convenient and takes you directly there. Taking a taxi can cost at least 100 HKD, while buses may price under 10 HKD. I like sitting on these double deckers cause you can get a […]

How to Spend an Overnight Layover in Denver, Colorado

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

In September I traveled around the US for about 2 weeks. I initially purchased a flight to visit my friend in Austin, Texas but found that the flight included a one night layover in Denver. In the end I thought it would actually be kind of cool to spend a night in a new state (I had never visited Colorado before). I had no idea what to expect as the only thing I knew about Colorado was that it was one of the first states to legalize recreational marijuana… I got into Denver quite late, unfortunately, arriving to the AirBnB around 5-6 PM. My flight was also early the next day, so I only had maybe 4-5 hours to explore the city. The host was nice enough to give me a ride to downtown Denver. How to Spend an Overnight Layover in Denver, Colorado 16th Street Mall My host dropped me off at the 16th Street Mall, which is actually a one-mile long street of restaurants and stores. They have a free shuttle that you can take up and down the street. Here’s a picture I took of a drunk girl riding it… Poke at Menya Noodle Bar I decided […]

Top Places to Visit in Mexico City

by Heesun @ Me Want Travel

Mexico City is a beautiful place and is having a bit of a moment with all the travel blogger hype. If you’re a fan of architecture and/or design, you will love Mexico City with its brightly colored homes, courtyards, and greenery. If you don’t, you can directly complain to me or blame it on me. Oh yea, you can also check out the pyramids at Teotihuacan, which were created around 100 BC, nbd. And the food…I pretty much lived on a diet of tacos and determined that it was the lifestyle I was meant to live. Also, please buckle in and prepare for a crap ton of solo shots because Mexico City is so damn photogenic. Top Places to Visit in Mexico City 1. La Casa Azul – aka Frida Kahlo’s home. The use of color and print in her home is awesome and so is learning how deeply this woman influenced art and fashion. She even became a symbol of the feminist movement. It was crazy to learn more about her personal life, like how she suffered from polio, then survived a horrible bus accident, married fellow artist Diego Rivera who was 20 years her senior, Diego slept with her […]

Chiang Mai, Thailand Cooking Class (Mama Noi Cookery School)

by Sharon @ Me Want Travel

I am currently back in Chiang Mai, Thailand (for about 2-3 months)! I’ve been doing some slow travel lately. My friends from Taiwan visited for a few days, so we decided to take a Chang Mai, Thailand cooking class. They told me they booked with Mama Noi Cookery School, so I booked online as well to join them. Chiang Mai, Thailand Cooking Class (Mama Noi Cookery School) We booked the half day evening course from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM for 800 baht (about $24.58 USD). This included the creation of a soup, a stir fried meal, curry dish, and a thai tea. Market + Exploration We started the day getting picked up at our studio apartment heading to the market. Our host showed us some of the ingredients we were going to be using. It was pretty cool checking out the Thailand local foods. The Thai lemon basil was our favorite! I thought we would get to pick out our ingredients for our meals at the market, but this was not included in the evening class. We then headed to the actual cooking school: And we played with puppies for the first 15 minutes hahaha they were soooo cute: The […]

Super Value Tours | Blog

The legend states that in ancient times, the Vietnamese people had to defend themselves against fierce invaders from the North. The Jade Emperor saw the peril of the Vietnamese people and sent a Mother Dragon and her children to defend the country. The mighty dragons swooped down from the heavens and landed in the sea. They defeated the invaders by breathing fire and throwing enormous jade and emerald boulders into the sea, forming an indestructible protective wall. The invaders were unable to maneuver their ships away from the wall, and so were dashed against it and destroyed. Thanks to the dragons, peace and tranquility were restored to Vietnam. The dragons chose to transform into humans and remain in the mortal world in order to help build the growing country. To show their appreciation, the Vietnamese people named the bay "Ha Long Bay" in honor of the dragons. After thousands of years, the solid emerald wall became the multitude of verdant green islets that dot the

5 Awesome Places to Drink Beer in SF

by Heesun @ Me Want Travel

I live in SF and I like beer. By no means does that make me an expert, but after having gone bar hopping for the past 6 years (which my Dad still finds hard to believe) and spending way too much dough on booze, I’ve curated a list of bars that are my faves. Whether it’s just to kick one back with your homies or to try new flavors, this list has got something for you. 5 Awesome Places to Drink Beer in SF 1. Biergarten (Hayes Valley, SF) – Perfect for sunny summer days (be sure to still bring a jacket though, for no other reason than this is SF) and with a group of friends, Biergarten always delivers. There are always a few tasty beers on tap, as well as wine and non-alcoholic options. They also feature a smattering of small plates so you can nosh as you drink those steins. Prost! 424 Octavia St, San Francisco, CA 94102 2. Mission Bar (Mission, SF) – If you’re a fan of dive bars, this place is the bee’s knees. They offer cheap beer, have a pool table, booths that you can lose yourself in conversation in, and are cash only. I […]
